Sylhet culture & heritage
The Museum of Rajas in Sylhet offers a closer look at the people and traditions behind the region’s folk music. Located at Raja Kunjo on Jallarpar Road, in the central Zindabazar area, this small cultural museum focuses on the Raja family and the legacy of mystic poet and songwriter Hason Raja.
Hason Raja (1854–1922) remains an important figure in Bengal’s folk tradition. The museum connects his story with the wider folk literature, music and poets of Greater Sylhet. It is maintained by the Educationist Dewan Talibur Raja Trust and was formally inaugurated on 30 June 2006.
For visitors interested in local heritage, it provides a different perspective from Sylhet’s tea gardens and rivers. Its city-centre location also makes it easy to include alongside shopping, dining and other sightseeing.
Published descriptions of the museum document galleries containing family photographs, historical items connected with Hason Raja and his family, and books about his life. These displays offer a starting point for understanding the relationship between family history and Sylhet’s cultural identity. The exhibits available during your visit may vary.
Take time to read the display information rather than treating this as a quick photo stop. If a museum assistant is available, ask about the stories behind the collection and any visitor guidance.
