Sadapathor Tourist Spot Reopens After Water Levels Recede in Sylhet

Sylhet, Bangladesh: The popular Sadapathor tourist destination in Companiganj Upazila of Sylhet has reopened to visitors just one day after authorities announced its temporary closure due to flooding risks.

Local administration officials decided to reopen the attraction on Monday after water levels dropped and conditions improved following a recent surge of hill runoff from upstream areas in India.

According to Companiganj Upazila administration, the tourist site was temporarily shut down to ensure visitor safety after heavy rainfall in the Indian hills caused strong currents and rising water levels in the area. Parts of the tourist zone and nearby business establishments were affected by the sudden influx of water.

Officials said that the situation has now returned to normal, allowing tourists to visit the scenic destination once again. Necessary precautionary measures will remain in place to ensure the safety of visitors.

The closure was initially announced on Sunday amid concerns over adverse weather conditions and potential hazards created by the strong flow of water. Authorities had stated that the site would reopen once the weather improved and the area became safe for tourists.

Local residents reported that heavy rainfall in upstream regions triggered a powerful flow of water into the Sadapathor area, submerging nearby shops and increasing safety risks for visitors. The temporary shutdown also affected local businesses that depend on tourism.

Speaking about the reopening, local officials noted that the reduction in rainfall and the decline in water levels have significantly improved conditions in the area. Visitors are now allowed to enter the tourist spot, although authorities continue to monitor the situation closely.

Sadapathor is one of Sylhet’s most visited natural attractions, known for its crystal-clear water, white stone beds, and scenic views near the Bangladesh-India border. The destination attracts thousands of tourists every year, particularly during the monsoon and winter seasons.

Meanwhile, rising water levels caused by upstream flows continue to raise concerns in several border areas of Sylhet, where residents remain alert over the possibility of flooding if heavy rainfall persists.
